The Power of “ER”

Two Letters That Can Change Your Life

The other morning, I noticed something in my gratitude journal that stopped me.

Every word ended the same way.

Stronger.

Healthier.

Happier.

Kinder.

Calmer.

Wiser.

Better.

Two simple letters.

ER.

And suddenly, I realized something powerful:

The best version of you isn’t someone completely different.

It’s just you…

Only stronger.

Only kinder.

Only wiser.

Only healthier.

Only better.

One ER at a time.

The Quiet Power of ER

We spend so much time trying to reinvent ourselves.

New habits.

New routines.

New goals.

New lives.

But real growth doesn’t usually happen that way.

The most meaningful growth is quieter.

It’s becoming just a little bit better at who you already are.

Because adding ER doesn’t erase you…

 It elevates you.

Good becomes better.

Kind becomes kinder.

Strong becomes stronger.

Smart becomes smarter.

And over time, those small shifts create extraordinary change.

 Extraordinary people aren’t always different.

They just bring more ER.

The ER Advantage

This idea has become so meaningful to me that I’ve started talking about it with my kids.

I tell them:

If you want to stand out… add ER.

Don’t just do the work — do it better.

Don’t just be kind — be kinder.

Don’t just show up — show up stronger.

Don’t just try — try harder.

Because the people who truly make a difference in life, in business, in friendships, in families…are the ones who bring the ER.

They bring:

More energy

More kindness

More effort

More thoughtfulness

More generosity

And we all know those people.

The ones who go a little further.

Care a little more.

Show up a little stronger.

You can’t always explain it.

But you feel it.

That’s the ER.

And those are the people who become unforgettable.

The ERs That Shape Us

Then I realized something else.

Some of the most meaningful roles in life…

also end in ER.

Daughter.

Mother.

Sister.

Caregiver.

Believer.

Leader.

Listener.

Supporter.

These aren’t titles you chase.

They’re roles you grow into.

And they ask more of you.

More patience.

More grace.

More compassion.

More understanding.

More presence.

I’ve been a daughter… and learned from those who came before me.

I’ve been a mother… and learned to love in ways I never imagined.

I’ve been a sister… and learned loyalty.

I’ve been a caregiver… and learned the quiet strength of showing up.

I’ve been a believer… and learned to trust the journey.

And I’ve always taken pride in those ERs.

Because these roles aren’t about recognition.

They’re about presence.

They’re about love.

They’re about becoming more human.

Some ERs make you more successful.

Some ERs make you stronger.

But these ERs…

These shape who you become.

And I think I will always be proud of those ERs.

The Intangible Difference

What makes someone special often isn’t obvious.

It’s not always talent.

It’s not always resources.

It’s not always opportunity.

It’s the extra effort.

The intangible things.

The person who follows up.

The person who stays positive.

The person who helps others.

The person who brings calm into a room.

The person who gives more than expected.

That’s the ER in action.

And over time, those intangibles become the difference between:

Good and great

Successful and exceptional

Ordinary and extraordinary

Two letters.

ER.

Reverse Engineering a Better Life

Once I noticed this in my journal, I started thinking differently.

Instead of writing:

“I want to be healthier.”

I asked:

What would make me healthier today?

Instead of:

I want to be happier.”

I asked:

What would make me happier right now?

A walk.

A conversation.

More gratitude.

Less stress.

More movement.

More patience.

Small changes.

But small changes add ER.

And ER compounds.

Little by little.

Day by day.

Choice by choice.

You don’t become better overnight.

You become better… one ER at a time.

To Stay Out of the ER… Start with ER

There’s another layer to this idea.

If we don’t become healthier…we often face health emergencies.

If we don’t become calmer…we face burnout.

If we don’t become kinder to ourselves…we face exhaustion.

Small improvements prevent big emergencies.

To stay out of the ER…Start with ER.

The Most Powerful Part

The beauty of this idea is that it’s hopeful.

You don’t need to become someone else.

You don’t need to change everything.

You don’t need a new life.

You just need to add ER.

A little stronger.

A little kinder.

A little wiser.

A little healthier.

So today, ask yourself:

Where can I add a little more ER?

Because when you think about it…

The best version of you isn’t someone completely different.

It’s just you…

Only stronger.

Only kinder.

Only wiser.

Only better.

Sometimes the biggest changes in life come from the smallest additions.

Just two letters.

ER.

One ER at a time.
