Today is #MemorialDay—a time to honor and thank all the #heroes and their families who have served and sacrificed for our beautiful country. To those who continue to serve: we are endlessly #grateful.
I love to #SpeakSports and share the history of extraordinary places that reflect our nation’s values, traditions, and sacrifices.
One place especially meaningful to me is the cemetery where my grandfather, #LeonardTose, is buried. I deeply appreciate how they always place #AmericanFlags beside those who served—an act of remembrance that speaks volumes.
From the playing of the #NationalAnthem before every game to the roar of the crowd united in pride, sports have a unique way of bringing us together in celebration of the USA. That’s part of why we created @GameDayInTheUSA and our book series #FootballFreddie—to inspire young readers through fun facts, history, and the joy of learning.
During our #GameDayInChicago adventure with @PilarGrover, we visited one of the most special places in the country: #SoldierField.
Both my grandfather, #LeonardTose, and legendary #Bears owner #GeorgeHalas proudly served our country. (Halas was a Navy ensign in WWI, served in WWII in the Pacific, earned a Bronze Star, and was honored with the Navy’s highest civilian recognition.)
Soldier Field, originally opened in 1924, was renamed in 1925 to honor U.S. soldiers who died in combat. It remains the only professional football stadium named in tribute to our Veterans—a powerful symbol of respect for those who gave all.
Let us always remember.
